SHERI ELLE WHITE - jazz vocalist
iSheri Elle White was born under the sign
of Taurus to which she credits her mellifluous full-bodied
vocal range with sultry and romantic contralto tones. A versatile
vocalist of Classical, Spirituals, Jazz Standards and Blues,
Ms. White’s musical performances are many and varied
including musical theatre.
Vocal training began in the Pentecostal Church in St. Louis, Mo.
U.S.A. and continued with music and theatre studies at St. Louis
Community College at Forest Park. While there, she played leading
roles with the theatre group and sang with the college choir and
jazz ensemble. Musical studies continued at the Bel Canto Academy
of Performing Arts, and St. Louis Community Music School. Miss
White presently sings with and has been a featured soloist with
the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Robert Wray,
composer of “The Gospel Mass.”
Her musical inspirations are Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen
McCrea, Joe Williams, Johnny Mathis, Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson,
and the big band sounds of Count Basie. St. Louis legend Mae “Lady
Jazz” Wheeler has been one of her mentors.
While teaching in the St. Louis Mo. U.S.A. Public Schools, she
sang with visiting Jazz legend organist Richard “Groove” Holmes,
and Jazz and concert Legend Dorothy Donnegan.
Ms. White, a native of St Louis, Mo. U.S.A. has traveled extensively
throughout the United States and foreign shores, stopping along
the way to sing at various nightclubs and restaurants including
clubs in the Haight-Ashbury and the 181 Club in San Francisco,
Chez Josephine (Baker) in New York City, Chez Haynes in Paris,
France, and The Island Shangri La Lobster Bar and Grill in Hong
Kong, S.A.R. China. |
